Inappropriate Music Selections

Some helpful guidelines for young music ministers just starting out, when it comes to choosing the right hymns for the services:

1. When the pastor preaches a strong salvation message Sunday morning and bids the sinners to come to Jesus now, avoid using "Why Not Tonight?" as the invitational hymn.

2. If the guest evangelist preaches on ridding your town of all its liquor and dumping it into the river, it is inappropriate to follow this by singing "Shall We Gather At the River?".

3. After singing "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown?", it may be appropriate to follow this with "No, Not One" (depending on the spiritual condition of the church), but if you do, never follow those two with "O, That Will Be Glory for Me".

4. After a rather, um, "large" lady in the church sings "Love Lifted Me" as a special, it is inappropriate to follow that with the hymn "O, the Wonder of it All" -- or worse yet, "It Took a Miracle".
